Our holiday visitors enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the Eden Valley area, it's a little off the beaten track of the Lake District, yet not far from the Lakes. You'll find beautiful villages, great walks and many historic sites. For walkers, ramblers, cyclists and mountain bikers this area awaits you.
The historic town of Appleby in Westmorland with it's cloisters, specialist shops and cafe's should be visited, also enjoy it's river walk.
Kirkby Stephen is a pretty town with a walk by Potters Bridge, take a walk up to Nine Standards Rigg.
Brough has a great castle that is good to explore. Other castles are Brougham near Penrith, and Pendragon Castle, Mallerstang, Kirkby Stephen.
Just outside Langwathby is Long Meg and Her Daughters the third largest stone circle in England.
Barnard Castle is a lovely town complete with castle and gorge, you can browse many antique shops. Take a day at Bowes museum famous for it's mechanical silver swan, but see it's galleries of art, design, and fashion. Bowes also has lovely gardens and a good cafe.
Take a journey to Alston, the highest market town in England and the most remote in Cumbria, to get to Alston drive up Honister pass from Penrith and enjoy the views towards the Solway and Lake District Fells. Also visit nearby Nenthead mine. Then take the scenic drive towards Brampton and walk the Lambley viaduct on the way.
From Appleby and Kirkby Stephen you are not far from Hadrians Wall, Hawes in North Yorks, Keswick, or Kendal.
